Order of decisions: silhouette before detail

Order of decisions: silhouette before detail

Most brides arrive with a very clear picture of a detail: a lace sleeve, a low back, a floor-length veil. Far fewer arrive with a clear picture of a silhouette. Yet the order in which the decisions are made is what makes a fitting calm rather than confusing, because the same detail reads entirely differently on two different cuts.

The line first, ornament later

Silhouette is the one decision no later addition can correct. Two directions are equally in demand this season: quiet, upright lines in heavy crepe and double-faced satin, and sculptural volume in organza and tulle. They describe two different days and two different brides. At a first appointment it is worth trying at least one gown from each group, including the one you are certain is not for you. The mirror answers faster than any description.

Fabric weight decides how still a gown stays

Once the line is settled, fabric decides how it behaves. Heavier cloth — crepe, double-faced satin, mikado — holds its shape, stays smooth in photographs and ignores small movements. Tulle, organza and chiffon do the opposite: they breathe, lift and ask for space around them. Neither is better. The question is only whether you want the gown to move with you or to stand around you, and how much it matters that the folds look untouched late into the evening.

Details belong at the end

Only when line and fabric are chosen does it make sense to talk about necklines, sleeves and backs. A neckline frames the face and should be chosen for your shoulders, not for a photograph from someone else's wedding. Sleeves are expressive this season — wide, lightly structured, often detachable, so one gown can give a more covered ceremony and a lighter evening. Veil, cape or a detail in the hair come last, in front of the mirror, with the gown already decided. In that order nothing competes.

How it looks at a fitting

  • Silhouette — two or three different lines, with details set aside.
  • Fabric — the same line in a still and in a floating cloth, compared while walking.
  • Neckline and sleeve — only on a silhouette already confirmed.
  • Layer — veil and accessories at the very end, never at the start.

Our appointments are private and made in advance, unhurried and without an audience. Gowns may be rented or bought, sizes run from 34 to 44, and there are cuts made for brides expecting a baby. For brides from Serbia, Croatia and the diaspora the rental contract is valid across the border, so the gown can be tried on here in peace and worn wherever the celebration takes place.
