A wedding gown is chosen in front of a mirror, but it is worn in motion. The most useful question at a fitting is therefore not how the dress looks while you stand still, but how it behaves the moment you move.
Why this season asks for a more attentive fitting
The shapes leading now carry more construction than they did a few seasons ago: sculpted corset bodices, basque waists dipping into a soft point, dense layers of tulle, rounded and bubbled hems. All of it photographs beautifully, but it also has weight and a turning radius. A well-built corset never grips; it holds the dress up, not you. That distinction is invisible to the eye and obvious the moment you walk the length of the salon.
Six movements worth trying
- Sitting. Choose a chair without arms. A long corset line should stay put, without twisting or pressing under the ribs.
- Raising your arms. Narrow or off-the-shoulder sleeves frame the shoulders beautifully — check that you can still lift your hands to your face.
- Walking and stairs. Tulle volume asks for a slightly wider stride; a skirt with a slit asks for a confident one.
- An embrace. The day is a long sequence of them. Sheer panels and appliqué should tolerate closeness.
- A turn. Spin once and watch how the hem settles — this is where fluid and structured skirts part ways.
- A deep breath. If it comes without thinking, the fit is right.

Bring the shoes and the underpinnings you genuinely intend to wear; heel height sets the hem, and what lies beneath decides how the back and neckline sit.
