Few gowns are chosen on a moving timeline the way a wedding dress is when the bride is expecting. The body changes week by week; the date does not. The reassuring part is that this season's bridal direction happens to suit you: raised waistlines, soft crepe and airy layers of tulle are not an exception at the moment, they are one of the strongest currents in bridal design.
A Line That Begins Under the Bust
The empire cut is back in the foreground, and it is no accident that it has always been a favourite among mothers-to-be. The waist sits just beneath the bust and the fabric falls from there in one uninterrupted line to the floor. Nothing grips at the middle, and no piece of construction has to land exactly on a measurement that is still changing. The same logic applies to a gently flared A-line that starts high, and to soft column shapes cut without a marked waist seam.
With the waist quietened, the neckline takes over. A square décolleté, a bateau line or a soft rounded V draws the eye up to the shoulders and collarbone, keeping the whole silhouette in balance. Wider straps, a short gathered sleeve or a sheer tulle sleeve give support without a single point of pressure.
Fabrics That Glide Rather Than Cling
Crepe with a satin reverse, silky crepe and a softer mikado carry just enough weight to travel over a bump instead of wrapping around it. Alongside them sit layered tulle, chiffon and lace appliquéd onto fine tulle: everything that keeps moving as you walk and sit down. Fine gathering at the side of the bodice softens the transitions and quietly holds a reserve of fabric for the final weeks.
What rarely works here is heavy polished satin, which records every contour, and a firmly boned corset bodice. Both are beautiful, and both are unforgiving about changes that arrive at the last moment.
Fittings Move Closer to the Day
- Measure late. Come early for the shape and the fabric; leave the final adjustment for the last few weeks before the wedding.
- Lacing at the back. A laced closure instead of a zip allows movement in both directions and still looks finished from behind.
- Comfort underneath. A lower heel, a soft lining and a light tulle underskirt matter more than any embellishment.
- One extra layer. A sheer cape or a longer veil gives coverage for the ceremony without adding weight on the shoulders.
Fittings in our salon are private and by appointment, unhurried and without an audience, with sizes from 34 to 44 and styles that take a gentle letting out. Every gown can be rented or bought, and the rental contract is valid across the border, which matters to brides travelling from Serbia, Croatia and the diaspora for only one or two visits. Pregnancy does not call for a different kind of wedding dress, only for one that was designed from the start to move with you.
