How to Choose a Wedding Dress Silhouette for Your Figure

The most beautiful gown is rarely the one that looks best on the hanger — it is the one that follows your line and feels like you. The silhouette does most of the work, before colour, lace or detail. That is why, at a first fitting, we like to try a few quite different shapes; brides often find that a cut they never considered is the one.

Four silhouettes worth knowing

The A-line is the most universal. Fitted at the waist and flaring softly to the hem, it lengthens and balances almost any figure. If you are unsure where to begin, begin here.

The ball gown has a full skirt and a defined waist — a fairytale choice for brides who want a dramatic entrance. It gently balances fuller hips, since the skirt covers them entirely.

The mermaid and trumpet follow the body to the knee and then flare. They celebrate curves and ask for a little confidence in the walk; on the right bride they look extraordinarily elegant.

The sheath falls straight down the body with no structured skirt. Calm, modern and refined — perfect for simpler, elegant weddings.

A few practical notes

  • Consider your venue: a full skirt wants room, while a sheath suits an intimate celebration beautifully.
  • Comfort is part of beauty — if you cannot breathe, sit and dance in the dress, it will show in the photographs.
  • Bring shoes close to what you plan to wear, so length and posture are judged realistically.

At your fitting our consultants help with exactly this — reaching the silhouette that suits you sooner, without pressure and without rushing.
